Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann on Thursday said: “The politics of communal divide and hatred is a potential danger to the country and its people. We need to be stay away from such politics and politicians”.
Bhagwant Mann said while interacting with the media here on Thursday. He was accompanying the newly-appointed in charge of Punjab affairs and senior legislator from Delhi Jarnail Singh on his maiden visit to the holy city after assuming charge.
Earlier, the entire core committee along with, Bhagwant Mann, Leader of Opposition, Harpal Singh Cheema and Core Committee Chairman and MLA Principal Budh Ram accompanied Jarnail Singh paid obeisance at the historic Sri Darbar Sahib, Sri Durgiana Temple and Bhagwan Balmiki Tirath Sthal and offered prayers for the wellbeing of the party in Punjab.
On the question of the ongoing slugfest between the Akali Dal (Badal) and its alliance partners, the BJP over sheet-sharing constituency, Mann said that there was no need to take the Akali Dal seriously anymore, saying that the party which was founded in 1920 on the basis of lofty principles, had been reduced to a mere family party.
Responding to a question over Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s link with Pakistani lady friend Arusa Alam, Bhagwant Mann said, “Of course, this is his (CM’s) personal and private matter, but he owes an answer to the people of Punjab and the country as to under what visa provisions she was staying at the Chief Minister’s official residence?” I shall bring him on board in the coming session of Parliament, as it relates to country’s security.”
Speaking on the occasion, Jarnail Singh said that Delhi had introduced a whole new kind of politics across the country, which was based on ‘Performance’, adding that AAP during the Delhi assembly elections which fought the battle of ballot under the dynamic leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, had appealed to the electorate to vote and support the party only on the basis of its performance during its five-year tenure.
He said that it was for the first time that the party, made a hat-trick, introducing a whole new kind of politics, a politics of ‘performance’, which was beyond the realm of politics of hatred and communal divide. He said the party would replicate the Delhi model in Punjab as well when the state goes for the polls in 2022.
Speaking on the occasion, Harpal Singh Cheema said that today SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia and Cabinet Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa were accusing each other of extending protective patronage to gangsters in the state, saying both were allegedly involved in promoting the cult of gangsters. He said that the SAD-BJP and the Congress were taking turns to run the powerful mafia in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal Budh Ram said that a resolution was passed at the state core committee meeting held in Amritsar condemning the Delhi violence and expressing gratitude to the party high command for the appointment of Jarnail Singh as in charge of Punjab affairs.
