Mehtpur Shootout Case: Jalandhar Rural Police arrests main accused involved in J&K Restaurant shootout incident

Jalandhar, January 11, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested Gurvinder Singh, the leader of the Rocky Fazilka gang, who was wanted in multiple high-profile cases, including the Mehtpur shootout and the ₹20 crore NRI kidnapping case. The arrest follows a meticulously planned operation by the district police, culminating in a 210-kilometer pursuit.

The accused, Gurvinder Singh, son of Surjit Singh, a resident of MC Colony, Fazilka, succeeded the leadership of the infamous Rocky Fazilka gang after the demise of its founder.

He has been linked to several violent crimes, including orchestrating the Mehtpur shootout at J.K. Restaurant on December 22, 2024, in which gang members attempted to intimidate a business owner over financial disputes. Singh was also a key figure in the kidnapping of Nachhatar Singh, an NRI, for a ₹20 crore ransom in 2020.

Earlier, three of Gurvinder’s accomplices—Paramjit Singh alias Mor Sidhu, Hira Singh alias Gurpradeep Singh, and Sunil Kumar alias Sonu Kamboj—were arrested along with a 32-bore revolver and a Maruti SX4 car used in the crime.

Speaking to the media, Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh stated that on December 22, 2024, Gurvinder Singh and his gang carried out a deadly attack at J.K. Sweet Shop and Restaurant in Mehtpur at around 4:45 AM. The gang fired multiple rounds at the restaurant owner, causing panic in the area before fleeing the scene.

The case was registered under various sections of the IPC and Arms Act at Mehtpur Police Station. The police teams, led by Sub-Inspector Amandeep Verma and Inspector Sukhdev Singh, under the supervision of DSP Shahkot Onkar Singh Brar coordinated the operation based on intelligence gathered from surveillance and forensic evidence recovered from the scene.

Police teams meticulously traced the accused through CCTV footage, tracking the vehicle used in the crime over 210 kilometers, which ultimately led to Gurvinder’s arrest.

SSP Khakh emphasized that Gurvinder’s gang was involved in heinous crimes such as contract killings, extortion, and heroin smuggling. The timely arrest of the accused has averted potential future crimes.

The operation resulted in the recovery of three illegal firearms, including pistols and a 12-bore double-barrel shotgun, along with live ammunition. The vehicle used in these crimes was also seized during the operation.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Gurvinder Singh had been actively involved in extortion, contract killings, and land disputes in Punjab and Rajasthan. His gang operated as a sophisticated network responsible for instilling fear and insecurity in the region.

The accused was previously booked under various cases, including multiple sections of the IPC and the Arms Act. A fresh FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Arms Act at Police Station Mehtpur. Gurvinder Singh has been remanded to police custody, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the gang’s remaining network and recover additional weapons.

SSP Khakh added that this arrest is a significant step toward dismantling organized crime and ensuring public safety. Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other associates involved in criminal activities linked to the gang.
