Dr Sandeep Singh, Principal Entomologist (Fruits) in the Department of Fruit Science at Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Ludhiana, has been appointed as the Chief Editor of the TAAO Fruit Fly Newsletter by the International Steering Committee of Tephritid Workers of Asia, Australia, and Oceania (TAAO). This prestigious organization is dedicated to advancing fruit fly research globally.
Dr Singh has been integral to the newsletter’s editorial team since 2022. His selection as Chief Editor reflects his significant contributions and expertise in fruit fly research.
Dr. Singh has previously represented India on the TAAO International Steering Committee during multiple terms (2014–2016, 2016–2024, and 2024–2028), playing a key role in organizing major events such as the TAAO Fruit Fly Symposia in Putrajaya, Malaysia (2016), and Beijing, China (2024). During these symposia, he also served as Chief Judge for the International Fruit Fly Photography Contest.
The TAAO Steering Committee includes renowned fruit fly experts from Australia, New Zealand, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea, and Bangladesh.
The PAU fraternity, including Dr Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice Chancellor; Dr Ajmer Singh Dhatt, Director of Research; Dr MIS Gill, Dean of the College of Horticulture and Forestry; Dr HS Rattanpal, Head of the Department of Fruit Science; and Dr Manmeet Brar, Head of the Department of Entomology, congratulated Dr Singh on his remarkable achievement.
