Amritsar MP Aujla warns of hunger strike if authorities fail to make city clean

MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla today reached the posh area of the city, Novelty Chowk, where he showed the officials of Municipal Corporation, Electricity Department and Horticulture Department the situation of encroachment and garbage around the roads. He also warned that if the situation of the city does not improve in 15 days and the garbage is not removed, then he will sit on an indefinite strike.

MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla first held a meeting in the office in the morning with Municipal Corporation’s Health Officer Dr. Yogesh Sharma, Health Officer Dr. Kiran, Assistant Medical Officer Dr. Rama, Electricity Department’s Executive Mandeep Singh.

The situation of the city was discussed and then after that MP Aujla called them on the ground to show the reality. He showed the officials the encroachment and filth conditions at Novelty Chowk.

He said that the busiest and happening place of the city is full of filth. There is no trace of beauty, rats have spoiled the whole area but the corporation is sleeping. He said that the Municipal Corporation officials as well as the Punjab government are responsible for this. Because the Municipal Corporation is short of funds.

The Municipal Corporation is not getting the money from the Finance Commission and they now don’t have money to pay salaries even. But still, it is their responsibility to keep the city clean.

He told the officials to get up from their seats and see the situation at the ground level at least three days a week. Because work is being done on files but is far from reality. MP Aujla said that at least the posh areas of the city should be kept clean so that tourists are not disappointed.

MP Aujla showed him every corner of Novelty Chowk and told him about many development works. He said that the municipal corporation officials should make estimates for these works and he will provide funds for this from MP Land.

MP Aujla, while attacking the Punjab government, said that the situation in the city is getting worse, not only in Amritsar but in the whole of Punjab, the situation is such that providing basic facilities should be the first priority of the government.

He said that earlier in the meeting with the officials, he also reviewed the talks with the company for lifting garbage in the city. According to which, it will also be resolved within 15 days. MP Aujla said that if the problem is not solved in 15 days and people do not get relief, then he will sit on an indefinite hunger strike and will wake up the government, municipal corporation officials and the trust.
