Siddhant Chaturvedi: Why he refused Film starring Amitabh, Ranbir & Alia

Mumbai, September 14, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Siddhant Chaturvedi is an actor who has made a name for himself with sincere and powerful performances in films like “Gully Boy” and “Gehraiyaan”, as well as the series “Inside Edge”.

However, his rise to fame was not without its challenges. Siddhant was once “blacklisted” by the film industry after he turned down multiple offers, including a role in Karan Johar’s “Brahmastra”. Despite the setbacks, he went on to make a stellar debut in the critically and commercially successful film “Gully Boy”.

Siddhant Chaturvedi’s Journey to Stardom

Born on April 29, 1993, in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh, Siddhant moved to Mumbai with his family at the age of 5. While studying at Mithibai College, he developed an interest in acting, participating in theatre and plays. His big break came when he won a popular fresh face contest, prompting him to leave his final CA exams and pursue a career in acting.

Siddhant began auditioning for films and even secured a role in Karan Johar’s production “Brahmastra”, directed by Ayan Mukerji. However, he eventually turned down the fantasy action-adventure film based on his father’s advice, despite being offered a three-film contract with Dharma Productions.

Why Siddhant Turned Down “Brahmastra”

In a recent interview with “Humans of Bombay”, Siddhant shared the story of why he refused the role in “Brahmastra”. He explained how his father advised him against taking the role, even though it seemed like a golden opportunity. “They were still writing the script, and I was excited.

I could have done it, but my father told me, ‘You are better than this.’ He asked me if I had the script or auditioned for the role, and when I said no, he advised me not to sell my destiny.”

Siddhant added that his father questioned the visibility he would get in a film featuring major stars like Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Amitabh Bachchan. “He asked me, ‘Who will notice you?’ and I realized he had a point.”

Making a Mark in “Gully Boy”

Despite turning down “Brahmastra”, Siddhant’s career took off when he made his Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar’s “Gully Boy” (2019). Playing the role of MC Sher, a mentor to the protagonist, Siddhant impressed audiences and critics alike with his performance. His portrayal of the street rapper earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as Zee Cine and Screen Awards for Best Male Debut.

“Gully Boy”, based on the lives of Indian street rappers DIVINE and Naezy, became a massive hit, grossing Rs 140 crore in India and Rs 235 crore worldwide.

Facing Rejection and Industry ‘Blacklist’

Siddhant revealed in the same interview that turning down several film offers led to him being blacklisted by the industry. “The problem wasn’t that I had no offers, but I knew I wanted to be a leading man. I worked hard on my craft and didn’t want to settle for side characters. I was blacklisted because people thought, ‘Who is this person saying no?’ But I knew my potential and didn’t want to short-sell myself.”

Upcoming Project: “Yudhra”

Siddhant is now gearing up for the release of his next film, “Yudhra”, directed by Ravi Udyawar. The action thriller, produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under Excel Entertainment, also stars Malavika Mohanan, Raghav Juyal, Ram Kapoor, and Raj Arjun. “Yudhra” is set to release in cinemas on September 20 and is one of the most anticipated action films of the year.
