Mumbai, October 10, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

NCP-SP MP Supriya Sule on Saturday condemned the detention of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke ahead of the outfit’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, describing the action as “against the Constitution”.

Dipke, along with CJP co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, was detained after Delhi Police personnel boarded the aircraft they had taken from Mumbai to Delhi at Indira Gandhi International Airport. The Delhi Police had earlier denied permission for the planned protest.

Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Sule questioned the need for police to detain the organisers while they were travelling to the national capital for a peaceful demonstration.

“I strongly condemn this. A struggle is taking place in this country to uphold constitutional principles within the framework of the Constitution. People were reaching Delhi peacefully… police boarded a plane to arrest them. Tell me, what was the need for that?” she said.

Sule argued that citizens should be able to raise their concerns through peaceful demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, a venue where protests have regularly been held.

“This right was given to all of us by Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar,” she said, adding that the manner in which the police detained the organisers was improper and unconstitutional.

“We can’t raise our demands? This is injustice being done to the youth,” the NCP-SP leader said.

With protests planned in the capital, security was stepped up across the National Capital Region (NCR), including border areas. Indian Railways cancelled and rescheduled several trains scheduled to arrive in New Delhi, while the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) closed entry and exit facilities at 45 Metro stations as part of measures to prevent demonstrators from reaching Jantar Mantar.

Reacting to the security measures, Sule questioned whether the country was witnessing an undeclared Emergency.

“I feel scared—is there an undeclared Emergency in this country? We all read about the Emergency…that was a long time ago,” she said.

She also expressed concern about the impact of the situation on young people, asking why students should be prevented from voicing their views in a democracy.

Earlier in the day, several opposition leaders, including former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, were also detained by police while attempting to join the CJP-called protest in New Delhi.
