All Indian crew members injured in an attack on the Panama-flagged commercial vessel MT On Peace while it was transiting the Strait of Hormuz are recovering well in hospitals in Oman, the Embassy of India said on Friday.
In an update posted on X, the embassy thanked Omani authorities for their prompt assistance in evacuating the injured seafarers and arranging medical treatment. It said the injured crew members were recuperating in hospitals in Khasab, Sohar and Muscat.
The embassy added that it remained in close contact with the crew members’ families, shipping companies, hospitals and Omani authorities to monitor the recovery of the injured seafarers.
The attack occurred earlier this week when MT On Peace was struck by a projectile off the coast of Oman while passing through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the vessel had 19 crew members on board, including 17 Indian nationals. Twelve crew members were injured in the incident, of whom 11 were Indian nationals.
With assistance from Omani authorities, the injured crew members were evacuated and taken to hospitals in Oman for treatment.
India condemned the attack, describing the continuing incidents targeting shipping in the region as a matter of deep concern. The MEA called for an immediate cessation of such attacks to protect peace and stability in the region.
The ministry also stressed that attacks targeting commercial vessels, seafarers and civilian infrastructure must end, and called for the restoration of safe navigation and commerce through international waterways at the earliest.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime route for global energy shipments and commercial traffic, making security incidents in the area a concern for countries dependent on regional shipping.
