The Gujarat government has begun construction of an Rs 80.25-crore ‘Yatri Niwas’ in Ayodhya, with the facility planned to accommodate 308 people and provide a large hall with seating capacity for 864, officials said.
The project is being developed by the Tourism Corporation of Gujarat Ltd on 6,929.28 square metres of land in an upcoming township in Ayodhya. Construction has commenced and the facility is expected to be opened to visitors from Gujarat within about a year.
The Yatri Niwas will feature different categories of rooms along with a reception centre and visitors’ lounge. The complex will also include a souvenir shop, multipurpose hall, auditorium, meeting rooms and a dining area.
Other planned amenities include a terrace garden, digital display systems and landscaped areas.
Officials said the project is being developed under the guidance of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi.
The government said the facility is intended to provide accommodation and other visitor amenities to devotees and tourists from Gujarat travelling to Ayodhya. It is also expected to serve as a base for groups visiting the temple town for religious and cultural purposes.
The project comes amid the continued flow of devotees to Ayodhya following the consecration of the Ram temple in January 2024.
Gujarat had earlier announced plans to establish a Yatri Bhavan in Ayodhya for pilgrims from the state. In March 2024, the government had said Rs 50 crore had been earmarked for the project.
The latest facility, with a larger planned capacity and a wider range of amenities, is aimed at providing visitors from Gujarat with a comfortable, home-like stay while strengthening the cultural and spiritual ties between Gujarat and Ayodhya.
