Security forces recovered seven improvised explosive devices (IEDs), including six pressure cooker bombs and a pipe bomb, during a joint search operation by Narayanpur Police and the 29th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) in the sensitive Abujhmad region of Chhattisgarh.
The recoveries were made on Monday during an extensive sanitisation and search operation in the Maksoli-Bhatbeda-Rainar belt, extending from the Rainar camp.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sandeep Kumar Patel, ITBP Battalion Commandant Abhishek Sood and Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Akshay Sabdra.
During searches in the Bhatbeda area, security personnel spotted suspicious objects and immediately secured the location. A detailed combing operation subsequently led to the recovery of the seven IEDs from a suspected dump.
Security forces also seized materials allegedly used in the fabrication of explosive devices, including a multimeter, screwdriver, soldering wire, soldering iron and three vehicle-opening keys.
The recovered explosives were destroyed at the spot by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad following prescribed safety protocols. The squad was led by Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohan.
Police officials attributed the recovery to sustained vigilance and coordination between Narayanpur Police and the ITBP, which have been conducting continuous search operations across the remote and forested areas of Abujhmad.
Officials said such operations are aimed at detecting and neutralising hidden explosive threats and preventing their use by armed insurgent groups. The recovery of multiple IEDs along with fabrication-related equipment highlights the security challenges posed by concealed explosives in the region.
Security forces said the operation has further strengthened the security apparatus in the area and will help maintain a safe environment for local residents.
Police have advised people living in the region to remain vigilant and immediately inform the nearest police station or security post about any suspicious object or unusual activity.
