The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday rejected claims made by Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar and changes related to Form 6, reiterating that the SIR order issued in June 2025 had the unanimous approval of the Commission.
In a clarification issued alongside Gandhi’s social media post, the ECI said the Bihar SIR order dated June 24, 2025, was approved unanimously and noted that the Supreme Court had upheld the order in its judgment dated May 27, 2026.
The Commission also referred to its September 26 press note, which stated that the declaration attached to Form 6 for the SIR exercise had been upheld by the Supreme Court. It further clarified that Forms prescribed under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, would continue to apply during the non-SIR period.
Gandhi had alleged on social media that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had changed Form 6 “illegally and unilaterally” and accused him of misusing his position to benefit the BJP. He also said those responsible would be held accountable.
The Press Information Bureau (PIB) separately issued a fact check on Monday, rejecting claims that the ECI had removed its September 26 press note from its website.
The PIB shared a link to the ECI document while responding to a social media claim by Ashutosh Ranka of the Cockroach Janta Party. It urged social media users to verify information through credible and independently verifiable sources before sharing it.
The September 26 ECI press note had addressed changes to the procedure concerning SIR notices, extended the SIR deadlines in Delhi and Maharashtra, and responded to allegations regarding differences within the Commission.
The latest exchange comes amid continuing political and legal scrutiny of the Election Commission’s handling of electoral roll revision and Form 6-related procedures.
