New Delhi, October 5, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Sanchar Saathi portal of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has crossed 30 crore visits since its launch in May 2023, highlighting growing public participation in efforts to combat telecom-enabled fraud and cybercrime, the Ministry of Communications said on Monday.

The citizen-centric platform allows users to report suspected fraudulent calls, SMS messages and WhatsApp communications, check mobile connections issued in their name, block lost or stolen handsets and verify the authenticity of mobile phones before purchase.

According to the ministry, every report submitted by citizens generates actionable intelligence for telecom authorities, banks and law enforcement agencies. It described users as “Cyber Warriors”, noting that information shared through the portal helps identify fraudulent numbers, devices and emerging scam patterns.

One of Sanchar Saathi’s key services, Chakshu, enables citizens to report suspicious communications involving fake KYC requests, fraudulent investment schemes, impersonation of government officials, and bogus job or loan offers.

Chakshu has received 12.80 lakh reports of suspected fraudulent communications, following which action has been taken in nearly 59.82 lakh cases, including the disconnection of more than 50 lakh mobile connections, the ministry said.

The portal has also helped citizens manage mobile connections registered in their names. More than four crore requests related to checking and reporting mobile connections have been resolved, helping prevent the misuse of SIM cards obtained through stolen or fraudulent identities.

In handset security, Sanchar Saathi has enabled users to block 60.96 lakh lost or stolen mobile phones across telecom networks. Of these, 37.85 lakh handsets have been traced and more than 14 lakh recovered through coordination among the DoT, telecom service providers and state police authorities.

The ministry said data generated through citizen reports also feeds into the Financial Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI), which assesses the risk associated with mobile numbers potentially linked to financial fraud.

This intelligence is shared through the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) with banks, payment service providers, telecom operators and law enforcement agencies to strengthen fraud detection and help prevent suspicious transactions.
