The four-member inquiry committee constituted by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami to conduct an impartial, fact-based investigation into the Anandpur Sahib-related matter will submit its preliminary report to him on Tuesday.
SGPC secretary and inquiry committee coordinator Balwinder Singh Kahlwan said on Monday that the panel had been examining relevant facts, documents and the views of different parties with due seriousness, responsibility and impartiality.
He said the objective of the inquiry was not to support any individual or side but to establish and present the actual facts related to the matter.
Kahlwan said drawing conclusions before completion of the inquiry, forming one-sided perceptions or making statements without factual verification was neither appropriate nor consistent with the process of investigating a sensitive matter.
He said premature public statements could further complicate the issue and affect the dignity of Sikh institutions, gurdwaras and Sikh personalities.
Kahlwan also said social media could not be treated as a substitute for a court or an investigating agency in sensitive matters. He urged people to avoid making unverified allegations against Sikh personalities or conducting campaigns aimed at discrediting institutions without first establishing the facts.
He said such statements could create unnecessary controversy and confusion instead of helping bring the truth to light.
Kahlwan reiterated that the SGPC had constituted the inquiry committee after considering the seriousness of the matter, and the panel was carrying out its responsibility by examining the facts.
He appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from making one-sided or factually unsubstantiated statements until the inquiry report was submitted.
Kahlwan said the committee would hand over its preliminary report to SGPC president Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami on Tuesday, after which Dhami would share information regarding the facts emerging from the report.
