The Delhi Police have busted an alleged interstate heroin trafficking and manufacturing network with the arrest of four people in Uttar Pradesh and the recovery of 7.076 kg of heroin valued at around Rs 50 crore in the international market, officials said on Monday.
The operation by the Special Staff of Rohini district began with information about the movement of narcotics in the Begumpur area and subsequently led investigators to an alleged manufacturing facility in Lucknow.
Police said the first breakthrough came on September 16, when a team intercepted a Grand Vitara in Sector 32, Begumpur, and arrested Laxman Hooda, who was allegedly on his way to deliver heroin. Officers recovered 300 grams of heroin and Rs 3 lakh in cash from the vehicle.
An FIR was registered at Begumpur police station under Sections 21, 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The following day, police arrested Hooda’s alleged source supplier, Anil alias Bhola, in Sonipat. Another 501 grams of heroin was recovered from his Mahindra XUV-700, according to police.
Investigators then used technical surveillance and human intelligence to trace the suspected source of the supply chain. Their investigation led them to a suspected manufacturing facility in Sita Colony, Jankipuram, Lucknow.
During a raid on October 4, police arrested Bablu and recovered 6.275 kg of freshly manufactured heroin, along with substances and equipment allegedly used in processing the drug. These included 2.504 kg of sodium, 787 grams of acetic anhydride, a gas cylinder, mixer grinder, utensils, weighing machine and other material.
During questioning, Bablu allegedly identified Ruksar Ali alias Raju as the main source supplier and owner of the facility. Police subsequently tracked him for around 120 km before apprehending him in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
According to police, the investigation has uncovered the alleged movement of heroin from its manufacturing stage to distribution channels in Delhi-NCR and surrounding areas.
Further investigation is underway to establish the full network and identify other persons involved.
