An anonymous group calling itself the Freedom Activist Group has claimed it has identified two people linked to the CoinDCX cryptocurrency exchange hack and knows the whereabouts of the stolen funds, but the allegations have not been independently verified.
In messages circulated through encrypted channels, the group identified one alleged individual only as “Diana” and did not provide a surname, nationality, photograph or documentary evidence to substantiate the claim.
The group said it plans to release additional material, including alleged cryptocurrency wallet trails, chat logs, screenshots and transaction hashes. It also warned that further details would be revealed.
The claims have not been verified by CoinDCX, law-enforcement authorities or independent investigators. No arrests have been announced in connection with the core hacking case.
CoinDCX had previously confirmed that attackers compromised an internal operational account and stole approximately $44 million in cryptocurrency. The exchange said customer funds were not affected and that the company would absorb the loss.
The latest claims have raised questions about whether the anonymous collective possesses genuine investigative material. However, its identity and motives remain unclear, and there is no verified evidence establishing whether it is a hacktivist group, a rival cybercriminal operation or an online research collective.
Cybersecurity experts have also cautioned against treating unverified names as evidence of involvement in a crime. Publicly identifying people without supporting evidence could harm individuals who have no connection to the incident and, if genuine suspects are involved, potentially alert them to an investigation and give them an opportunity to move funds or destroy evidence.
Until the group provides verifiable evidence and the information is independently corroborated, its claims remain allegations.
