Varun Chopra overturned a three-shot deficit to 36-hole leader Shiv Kapur with a strong final-round 4-under 68 to clinch the IGPL Invitational title.
Chopra, who began the final day three shots behind Kapur, carded rounds of 66, 68 and 68 for a 14-under 202 total. His final-round charge earned him a two-shot victory over Kapur, who finished with a 1-over 73.
Kapur had taken control of the tournament with a stunning opening-round 10-under 62 and followed it with a 69 to maintain a three-shot lead going into the final day. However, Chopra turned the contest around to claim his first IGPL title and the winner’s prize of Rs 22.50 lakh.
Kapur finished runner-up at 12-under 204 and received Rs 15 lakh.
Chopra had earlier this year won the APGA Tour Championship and also performed well at the Morocco Rising Stars Marrakech.
Sachin Baisoya finished third at 8-under after carding a 68 in the final round. Veer Ganapathy (71), Gaganjeet Bhullar (71), Varun Parikh (71), Aryan Roopa Anand (68) and Tushar Pannu (68) shared fifth place.
Chopra’s victory also helped Auro Goa Eagles complete a double by winning the team title. They finished at 23-under, while Kapur-led RVR Delhi Blue Bulls were second at 21-under.
Baisoya’s final-round effort helped Hyderabad Firebird finish third at 13-under, tied with Flying Man Kolkata, for whom Varun Parikh was the leading performer.
Chopra made a birdie at the start of his final round and then produced three birdies in four holes between the fifth and eighth to build momentum. Kapur could not match the charge, allowing Chopra to move ahead by the turn.
Chopra remained steady on the back nine. He birdied the 14th but gave the shot back on the 16th before playing the final two holes in par. Kapur was unable to capitalise on the dropped shot.
Kapur, who had produced a remarkable 62 in the opening round, could not find a birdie in the final round. He settled for pars through most of the round and dropped a bogey on the par-4 12th to finish with a 73.
IGPL debutant Ravi Kumar (70) and young Kanav Chauhan (71) shared ninth place to complete the top 10.
