Kapurthala in the men’s category and the Border Security Force (BSF) in the women’s category emerged champions at the 62nd Senior Punjab State Volleyball Championship, which concluded in Amritsar on Sunday.
Organised by the Punjab Volleyball Association, the championship featured 24 men’s teams and 19 women’s teams from across Punjab.
Member of Parliament and Punjab Volleyball Association President Gurjeet Singh Aujla attended the concluding ceremony as a special guest, while DIG SS Chandel was the Chief Guest and encouraged the players.
In the men’s category, Kapurthala secured the top position, followed by Ludhiana in second place and Amritsar in third.
BSF finished at the top in the women’s category, with Sri Muktsar Sahib securing second place and Kapurthala finishing third.
Aujla said promoting young sporting talent in Punjab and providing players with opportunities to develop their skills remained a continuous priority of the association.
He congratulated the players, coaches and organisers for their efforts and performances and wished the participants success in their future sporting careers.
The championship was organised with the support of Punjab Volleyball Association General Secretary Tarun Bhateja, Vice Presidents Rawal Singh and Kapil Seth, Control Committee Chairman Dr Kanwaljeet Singh, Convenor KK Sharma, Technical Committee Chairman Anil Kasana and other office-bearers.
The selection committee included international players Gurinder Singh, who has represented India at three Asian Games, and Balwinder Singh. Sports Department experts Ajay Nagar and Palwinder Kaur also contributed to the successful conduct of the championship.
