The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended with immediate effect the licence of Ganesh Products Private Limited following an inspection that found serious and critical food safety violations at its manufacturing premises. The licence will remain suspended until further orders.
The inspection found highly unsatisfactory cleaning and sanitation conditions, with dirt, soil, dark matter, algae or fungal spots, cockroaches, rodents, flies and cobwebs reported in processing and storage areas. Finished products were stored inadequately, with improper stacking, insufficient ventilation and products placed close to walls.
Inspectors also found rusting on most production containers, along with unwanted material deposits. Expired or unlabeled food materials were stored alongside finished products, while waste, old stock, rejected lots and scrap had accumulated in food-handling areas.
Pest infestation was reported in finished-product and packaging-material storage areas. Dead mice, cockroaches, rodents and flies were found, while rodent-control boxes were absent and pest-control equipment was non-functional. The premises also had flaking paint, dampness, broken floor tiles and damaged corners.
The inspection further found that records for testing control samples were unavailable. Several food safety and quality-management documents were also missing, including mock recall records, jewellery policy, consumer complaint records, internal training records and internal and external audit records.
During the enforcement action, three paneer manufacturing units were found operational. No food business operator, owner, manager or authorised representative was present, while no FSSAI registration or licence certificate or signboard was displayed.
Around 7,600 kg of paneer was found stored in what authorities described as grossly unhygienic and insanitary conditions, including soiled containers and unclean platforms. The entire quantity was destroyed at the spot to prevent it from re-entering the food chain.
Authorities also found milk powder, fabric whitener, industrial-grade bleaching agent, refined palm oil, soybean and poster white colour at the premises. A separate paneer manufacturing unit in Village Nai was subsequently inspected.
