Rajya Sabha MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney has made a strong pitch for a BJP government in Punjab, saying the state was ready for a “new era of development, progress and good governance” and a decisive mandate for a “Double-Engine Sarkar”.
Sahney made the remarks after welcoming BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santosh during the latter’s visit to Amritsar as part of his Punjab tour.
Sharing details of the visit on social media, Sahney said he was humbled to welcome Santosh in Amritsar and presented him with a replica of Sri Harmandir Sahib as a mark of respect and affection.
According to Sahney, Santosh held detailed district-wise organisational meetings during his Punjab visit and conducted a micro-level review aimed at further strengthening the BJP organisation at the booth level.
Highlighting the party’s organisational push in the state, Sahney said the vision and guidance of the BJP’s senior leadership, coupled with the resolve of party workers, would pave the way for what he described as a new era of development, progress and good governance in Punjab.
“Punjab is ready for a new era of development, progress and good governance,” Sahney said, adding that the party was working towards securing a decisive mandate for a strong “Double-Engine Sarkar” in Punjab.
He said the BJP’s efforts were aimed at putting Punjab’s interests, aspirations and future first.
Sahney’s remarks assume political significance as they come a few months after he joined the BJP along with six other Rajya Sabha MPs who had been with the Aam Aadmi Party.
Sahney had been elected to the Rajya Sabha from Punjab in 2022 after being nominated by AAP. In April this year, he was among seven AAP Rajya Sabha MPs who moved to the BJP.
His latest statement, explicitly advocating a decisive mandate for the BJP in Punjab, comes amid the party’s intensified organisational activity in the state, with the emphasis apparently shifting towards strengthening its district and booth-level structure ahead of future electoral contests.
