Mumbai, August 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News) — Music composer and singer Akhil Sachdeva has said that the singing talent within him has not yet been utilised to its true potential in the film industry, even though he has delivered several successful songs.
Sachdeva, who composed the song Piya Ghar Aaya – Homecoming from the recently released Emraan Hashmi-starrer Awarapan 2, spoke about his musical journey and the challenges artists face while navigating industry expectations in an interaction with IANS in Mumbai.
Reflecting on the pressures that market forces can place on artists, Sachdeva said he believes every musician must retain an individual creative identity.
“I think it happens. It’s a time phase. I’ve been doing music for 15 years. I’ve been doing Bollywood for 10 years. Since my debut in 2017 with ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’, it’s been almost nine years,” he said.
Calling music a divine gift, he added that artists must express themselves in their own way to establish a genuine connection with their audience.
“Music is God’s gift, not people’s. Everyone does it in their own way. I have to give my music my own way. Only then will I connect with my fans,” Sachdeva said.
He explained that this is why he prefers writing and composing his own songs, allowing him to communicate emotions and ideas in a manner that is uniquely his.
“That’s why I try to write my own songs, compose my own songs because what I want to say in my own way, no one else will be able to say it,” he said.
Asked whether he craves greater creative control, Sachdeva said his circumstances have often required him to take responsibility for multiple aspects of his music.
“I don’t yearn for it. Situations were such that I have to do everything on my own,” he said.
The composer also acknowledged that despite giving some major songs, he has not been featured as the singer as frequently as he would have liked.
“I don’t shy away from saying that when I have given such big songs, not many people have used my voice. But that doesn’t take anything away from my talent and what my belief on music is,” he said.
Sachdeva expressed hope that his voice would receive greater recognition with his upcoming projects.
“There are few people who love me. I don’t blame anyone but there is a timing in life. I think after Awarapan 2 and my upcoming movies which are very big, I think people will use my voice,” he said.
He added that he wants his voice to be given the opportunity it deserves but does not want to carry any regret if that does not happen.
“And I want this voice to be used properly. But if it’s not there, I don’t want to go with that regret because the fight is not mine but with the artist inside me. He should get the place he deserves,” Sachdeva said.
He credited his ability to write, compose and sing independently as a blessing and said he remains grateful for the opportunity to pursue all three aspects of music.
“God gave me the capability that I can write, compose and sing on my own. He has blessed me with all this and I appreciate it a lot. I value it a lot. I move forward with that value and pure heart,” he added.
