NDA leaders on Friday welcomed RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent interaction with Gen Z and Gen Alpha students, describing his remarks on youth concerns, protests and democratic dialogue as relevant to the current context.
Bihar Minister Ram Kripal Yadav praised Bhagwat’s outreach to young people, saying the RSS chief had made a significant effort to understand their views, concerns and aspirations.
“Mohan Bhagwat interacted with young people on a large scale and made an effort to understand their thoughts and concerns. I believe his remarks were very apt and serve as a valuable example for all of us,” Yadav said.
Telangana BJP president N. Ramchandra Rao also described Bhagwat’s interaction with students and youth as fruitful and beneficial for society.
“The interaction with the youngsters, youth, and students by Mohanji Bhagwat was very fruitful. His message to the entire nation was very interesting and also very useful. I am sure that Mohanji Bhagwat’s message is very important in the present context,” Rao said.
Rao said Bhagwat addressed several issues during the interaction, including student protests. According to him, the RSS chief acknowledged that protesting is a democratic right but cautioned against its misuse for other purposes.
Speaking in Mumbai on Thursday, Bhagwat said members of Gen Z-led movements should be viewed as part of society rather than being labelled “anti-national”. He said the concerns of young people were genuine and that democratic institutions should provide adequate space for dialogue.
Bhagwat also said younger generations increasingly seek logical answers and meaningful engagement instead of unquestioned acceptance. He maintained that protests can serve as an important means of expressing concerns in a democracy when accompanied by constructive dialogue.
Opposition leaders, however, questioned whether governments were following the same principles.
Samajwadi Party MP Awadhesh Prasad said Bhagwat should ask his own government to implement the message, asserting that protests are an essential part of democracy.
Prasad cited previous student demonstrations and alleged that young protesters with legitimate demands had faced police action, including lathi-charge and tear gas, while also flagging broader challenges confronting students and youth.
