India exported coffee to more than 140 countries during 2025-26, with shipments witnessing significant growth in several emerging and expanding markets, the government informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Jitin Prasada said the increase was recorded in exports to countries including the United Arab Emirates, Libya, Australia, South Korea, Egypt, Kuwait and the UK. Indian coffee also reached newer markets such as Djibouti, Micronesia and Timor-Leste.
Responding to a question by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Prasada said the Coffee Board had undertaken several initiatives to promote Geographical Indication (GI)-tagged coffee and support growers cultivating registered varieties, including farmers in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency.
“Wayanad Robusta Coffee” is registered as a GI product, while the Coffee Board serves as the authorised user registrar for GI-tagged coffees. The Board regularly conducts awareness programmes to encourage GI registration among stakeholders across the coffee value chain.
The initiatives include GI coffee tasting sessions, buyer-seller meets and participation in coffee-focused trade fairs and food and beverage exhibitions.
The government said development support is also extended to growers, including small and tribal farmers, under the Integrated Coffee Development Project (ICDP).
During 2025-26, the average export unit value of GI-registered Arabica coffee rose 34.36 per cent compared with the previous financial year, while that of Robusta increased 29.73 per cent.
Prasada said the government also organises events such as the India GI Fair, GI Mahotsav and dedicated GI pavilions at national and international exhibitions to enhance the visibility and marketability of Indian GI products.
Under the ICDP, the Coffee Board undertakes international trade promotion, capacity-building and entrepreneurship programmes, coffee-tasting sessions and barista training. It also promotes premiumisation and value-added coffee products sold under the “Coffees of India” brand.
The Board has additionally developed Gourmet GI Coffee Gift Boxes in collaboration with Indian missions abroad to increase the global visibility of India’s GI-registered coffees.
Since 2018-19, the Coffee Board has participated in 41 international fairs as part of efforts to promote Indian coffee across global markets.
