Punjab Vigilance Bureau Arrests Private Driver While Accepting Rs 5,000 Bribe

Chandigarh, August 6, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Thursday arrested a private driver working with a Mohali-based company after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 during a trap operation.

According to an official spokesperson, the accused, identified as Amandeep, was employed as a driver with Raftar Tools and Travel Company in Mohali. His arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Kurukshetra, Haryana.

The complainant alleged that the accused had demanded Rs 60,000 to facilitate a compromise with the owner of Raftar Tools and Travel Company, who had earlier lodged a complaint against him at a local police post. After negotiations, the alleged demand was reduced to Rs 40,000.

Instead of paying the bribe, the complainant approached the VB Flying Squad-I, SAS Nagar, seeking legal action.

Acting on the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau organised a trap operation. During the operation, the accused was allegedly caught red-handed while accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesperson said a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station in SAS Nagar.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the case.
