The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and a Reader to the Station House Officer (SHO) of Cyber Crime Police Station, Bathinda, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹1 lakh.

The arrests were made as part of the Vigilance Bureau’s ongoing campaign against corruption in the state, an official spokesperson said on Wednesday.

The accused have been identified as ASI Satroop Singh and Gurcharan Singh, Reader to SHO, Police Station Cyber Crime, Bathinda.

According to the Vigilance Bureau, a case had been registered against the complainant’s son at Cyber Crime Police Station, Bathinda. The accused officials allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh from the complainant in exchange for not arresting his son, helping him secure bail and facilitating a compromise with the other party involved in the case.

The complainant, unwilling to pay the illegal gratification, approached the Vigilance Bureau Flying Squad-1, SAS Nagar, following which a trap was laid.

During the operation, the VB team caught both accused officials red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe amount from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at Vigilance Bureau Police Station, SAS Nagar. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
