Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Wednesday reiterated his government’s commitment to accelerating the development of the Kandi and border regions of the state, with a special focus on infrastructure, tourism promotion and economic growth.
Chairing a meeting of the Border and Kandi Area Development Board in Chandigarh, the Chief Minister directed officials to work towards unlocking the tourism potential of the Kandi region and ensuring overall development of these strategically important areas.
Highlighting the vast possibilities in the region, CM Bhagwant Singh Mann said the Kandi area has immense potential to emerge as a major tourism destination for visitors from across the country and abroad.
He said the state government is making concerted efforts to develop tourism infrastructure and utilise the natural beauty and resources of the region to generate new economic opportunities for local residents.
The Chief Minister said that due to the neglect of previous governments, the Kandi region could not witness the desired pace of development. However, the present government is working with a focused approach to transform the area and bring it onto the tourism map.
“After strengthening infrastructure and improving facilities, the Kandi region will emerge as a major tourist hub. The government is committed to leaving no stone unturned for its development,” Mann said.
Speaking about border districts, the Chief Minister said these areas hold special importance as their residents have always displayed courage, patriotism and dedication towards safeguarding the nation’s unity and sovereignty.
He said despite producing generations of brave citizens and patriots, border areas did not receive adequate attention in terms of development in the past. The Punjab Government, he added, is making dedicated efforts to improve infrastructure and ensure the welfare of people living in these regions.
Mann said the government remains committed to creating better opportunities for residents of border and Kandi areas through development projects, tourism promotion and economic activities.
Cabinet Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and other senior officers were also present during the meeting.
