The Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday paid heartfelt tributes to Bhagat Puran Singh, the founder of Pingalwara, on his death anniversary, remembering him as a symbol of selfless service, compassion and humanity.
Punjab Assembly Speaker S. Kultar Singh Sandhwan said that Bhagat Puran Singh’s life was not merely a name but a lasting inspiration of dedication, love and service towards humanity.
“Bhagat Puran Singh Ji sacrificed his dreams, happiness and personal comforts for the helpless, destitute, sick and abandoned people. His entire life was devoted to serving those who had no one to care for them,” Sandhwan said.
Recalling Bhagat Puran Singh’s iconic act of carrying differently-abled Pyara Singh on his back through the streets of Amritsar, the Speaker said the gesture represented the highest form of selfless compassion and human values.
He said Bhagat Puran Singh not only provided shelter and care to the neglected sections of society through Pingalwara but also made significant contributions towards environmental protection, tree plantation and creating awareness against pollution.
“In today’s fast-paced world, the thoughts and life of Bhagat Puran Singh Ji continue to guide us, especially those involved in public service. The real tribute to him would be to follow the path of compassion, service and humanity shown by him,” Sandhwan added.
Bhagat Puran Singh, who founded the All India Pingalwara Charitable Society in Amritsar, dedicated his life to caring for abandoned, disabled and underprivileged people and became an enduring symbol of humanitarian service.
