In a significant move to ensure the welfare of children and streamline legal guardianship processes, Ms. Priya Sood, Ld. District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jalandhar, paid an official visit to Unique Home, Jalandhar, today.
Accompanied by Sh. Rahul Kumar, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA Jalandhar, the visit focused on assessing the living conditions, educational facilities, and emotional well-being of the residents at the home.
The Hon’ble Judge spent quality time with 55 children currently residing at the home. She took a keen interest in their daily routines, health standards, and the quality of education being provided to them. During the visit, Ms. Sood and Sh. Rahul Kumar personally reviewed 9 pending adoption cases.
The judicial officers interacted with the children involved and assessed the legal documentation to ensure that the transition to permanent homes remains smooth, transparent, and in the best interest of the children. The team inspected the kitchen, dormitories, and recreational areas of the facility to ensure compliance with the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. The Children are being kept in the Home as per the orders passed by the Child Welfare Committee.
Addressing the management of Unique Home, Ms. Priya Sood emphasized that the judiciary is committed to ensuring that every child in institutional care receives a family-like environment. She lauded the efforts of the home’s administration but reminded them of the stringent legal protocols required for child safety and rehabilitation.
Sh. Rahul Kumar added that the DLSA remains proactive in providing legal aid to such institutions, ensuring that no child remains in institutional care longer than necessary due to procedural delays.
The visit concluded with a brief meeting with the staff and caregivers to address any administrative hurdles regarding the legal status of the residents. Sh. Jagan Nath, Senior Assistant, District Legal Services Authority, Jalandhar was also present.
