A Punjab Deputy Superintendent of Police died of accidental fire from his departmental weapon at his residence here.
The deceased, DSP Yogesh Kumar Sharma, was recently transferred from ANTF Punjab to AGCMS, BOI.
Phagwara SP Madhvi Sharma told the media that Sharma was cleaning his revolver at his government residence in the morning at around 7.30 AM when an accidental fire from the weapon hit his chest. He was to hand over the departmental gun to the concerned authorities, but the unfortunate incident happened while cleaning it.
The DSP was rushed to Johal Hospital in Jalandhar, where he was declared brought dead.
Madhvi Sharma said further action would be taken as per the statement of the members of DSP’s family.
