The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Awareness Society, Malerkotla, celebrated the birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar with great devotion and enthusiasm at the Royal Jordan Palace on Raikot Road.
Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema, MLA Dr. Jamil Ur Rehman, and District Planning Committee Chairman Sakib Ali Raja specially attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema recalled the life and ideology of Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, stating that the Constitution he authored and the emphasis he placed on education continue to be a source of inspiration for society today.
Quoting Dr. Ambedkar, he said, “Education is like the milk of a lioness; whoever drinks it, roars.” Therefore, he urged people from all sections of society to move forward by acquiring an education.
Sharing a crucial update during the event, the Finance Minister announced that the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will make a major declaration on April 14 to mark Baba Saheb’s birth anniversary. Under this initiative, financial assistance of Rs 1,500 per month will be provided to women belonging to poor and Dalit communities, strengthening their financial independence and boosting social empowerment.
Cabinet Minister Cheema highlighted that for the first time, a portrait of Baba Saheb Ambedkar has been installed in every government office across Punjab, symbolizing a true tribute and respect for him. He affirmed that the Aam Aadmi Party government is fully committed to safeguarding the rights of every section of society by following Baba Saheb’s ideology.
Citing his own life as an example, Cheema noted that it was only because of the rights and educational opportunities secured by Baba Saheb that he was able to pursue higher education, become a lawyer, and ultimately serve the people.
He further added that the state government is continuously making improvements in the fields of education, healthcare, and social justice. Alongside this, he assured the gathering that local demands, including the installation of Baba Saheb’s statue in Malerkotla, the construction of a community center, and the regularization of temporary sanitation workers and other employees, would be fulfilled very soon.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Dr. Jamil Ur Rehman said that Baba Saheb Ambedkar was a great scholar, the chief architect of the Constitution, and a distinguished jurist whose thoughts and vision remain a guiding light for us today. He remarked that such great personalities are born once in centuries, and society can only truly progress by walking the path shown by them.
A large number of local residents, along with various social and political leaders, were present at the event.
