The Shiromani Akali Dal today received a major boost in Pathankot and Gurdaspur districts with senior Congress and Aam Aadmi Party leaders, including former PADB Pathankot Chairman and Secretary PPCC Avtar Singh Kler and AAP incharge for Pathankot, Bhoa and Sujanpur Assembly constituencies – Sanjeev Sharma joining the party in the presence of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal.
A number of BJP workers also joined the SAD on the occasion giving a jolt to all three parties of Delhi in these border districts.
Addressing a massive function here along with senior leader Gurbachan Singh Babehali, the SAD president said “Punjabis across the State are realising that a regional party alone can take Punjab out of its present mess. The SAD has a proven track record of development and maintaining peace and communal harmony which people realise is needed in this border State”.
Welcoming Mr Avtar Singh Kler into the SAD along with his supporters, the SAD president said Kler was a grass root leader who was known for his strong connect. He appointed him as the Pathankot Rural district president of the SAD on the occasion.
Mr Badal said AAP had been virtually wiped out in this district with Mr Sanjeev Sharma joining the SAD with a large number of supporters from Pathankot, Bhola and Sujanpur. He appointed him as the SAD halka incharge of Sujanpur on the occasion.
Besides, Vijay Baghi (ex director PADB), Manjinder Kaur Kler (Sarpanch vill Lamini and ex member ZP), Anmoldeep Singh (distt president Cong Kisan Cell), Sushma Devi (BJP Sarpanch vill Pangoli), Ajay Mahajan (BJP Yuva Morcha), Som Raj, Balwant Singh (ex AAP Sarpanches) and others also joined the party.
Mr Badal while welcoming all of them into the party fold said they would be given requisite responsibilities in the SAD.
