17 Faculty Members and a Research Scholar of CUP feature in Stanford’s ‘Top Int’l Scientist List 2024’

Bathinda, September 18, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Seventeen faculty members and a research scholar from the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) have featured in the prestigious “Updated Science-wide Author Databases of Standardized Citation Indicators” for their exceptional research contributions in 2023.

This database, is compiled by the research group of John P.A. Ioannidis from Stanford University, USA, and published by the Elsevier Data Repository on September 7, 2024, recognizes top international scientists for their citation impact.

CU Punjab has shown significant progress by increasing its representation in Stanford’s “Top International Scientist List” from eight in 2022, to eleven in 2023, and seventeen in 2024.

The selection for this recognition is based on scientists ranking in the top 100,000 globally by c-score (with and without self-citations) or within the top 2% in their field. The database classifies scientists across 22 fields and 174 subfields, following the Science-Metrix classification system.

The database recognizes top scientists for both their recent-year and career-long contributions. The data for this work is derived from Scopus and provided by the Elsevier Data Repository. Notably, CU Punjab’s scientists have made their mark in both categories.

The global database features scientists who made exceptional contributions in a single recent year, based on citations received in 2023.

The following seventeen faculty members and one research scholar from the Central University of Punjab are recognized for their commendable research: Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg (Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology), Dr. Shashank Kumar (Dept. of Biochemistry), Dr. Balachander Vellingiri (Dept. of Zoology),

These individuals have been recognized for their contributions in various disciplines, including Environmental Sciences, Oncology & Carcinogenesis, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Microbiology, Food Science, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry, Plant Biology & Botany, Energy, General Physics, Nuclear & Particle Physics, Applied Physics, and Materials. Dr. Pardeep Kumar was recognized in two disciplines—Microbiology and Medicinal Chemistry—for his significant contributions to both.

Among the recognized faculty members, Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg from the Department of Environmental Science and Technology continues to shine, having been featured in Stanford’s top 2% scientist list for four consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023). He is also included in the career-long database of top international scientists for 2024, in recognition of his remarkable contributions throughout his career.

Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, stated that it is a moment of great pride and joy for the Central University of Punjab to see our seventeen faculty members and a Ph.D. Scholar recognized among the top international scientists.

He applauded the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products (PSNP) for reaching a new milestone, as all five faculty members of the department featured in Stanford’s “Top International Scientist List 2024.”

He highlighted that this recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and outstanding research contributions of the university’s faculty. The Vice-Chancellor further stated that this accomplishment reflects CU Punjab’s commitment to fostering research and innovation.

He expressed confidence that this achievement would inspire both faculty and students to strive for excellence and make even greater contributions to the fields of science and research.
