10 Companies of Haryana Armed Police, IRB deputed for elections in Punjab

Haryana Police has ordered for deployment of 10 companies of State Armed Police/IRB/District Police for election duties during seventh phase of polling in neighbouring state of Punjab.

While giving this information here today, Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana, Mr Manoj Yadava said that we had taken 10 companies of security forces from Punjab Police on exchange basis to assist the State Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for ensuring peaceful conduct of Lok Sabha polls in the state.

“As polling has been completed in a peaceful and incident-free manner in Haryana, thus we are sending our 10 companies in Punjab which will go to the poll in last phase on May 19,” added the DGP.

Giving further details, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Mr Navdeep Singh Virk said these companies will be deployed to assist the Punjab Police and other security forces during election as well as other law and order duties. These companies, to be sent in for the polls, have been instructed to take position in Punjab on May 16 and 17, 2019.

Each company having a total of 60 personnel including one Inspector, three NGOs, nine Head Constables and 47 Constables, shall be under the command of one DSP rank officer as Coy Commander, added Mr Virk.

IGP Law and Order, Dr Hanif Qureshi will be the Nodal Officer for deployment of these Coys for election duties in Punjab.

It may be mentioned here that Centre has initially allocated 65 companies of CAPF to Haryana for poll duty. After the allocation of additional forces including 10 from Punjab Police, total number of security forces went up to 95 companies.
