Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee, the supreme religious body of the Sikhs world over, has decided to honour the oldest marathoner Fauja Singh and Sarup Singh Alag a religious author for doing proud to the community.
This was disclosed by Jathedar Avtar Singh, the president of SGPC after a meeting of the Executive of SGPC at Ludhiana.
Fauja Singh who has just turned 101, is a devout Sikh and an athelete who runs and wins marathons even at this age thereby bringing pride to his community. Born on April 1, 1911, Fauja Singh, originally from Beas Pind, in Jalandhar (Punjab), is a British centenarian marathon runner. He is a world record holder in his age bracket.
Dr. Sarup Singh Alag is the chairman of ‘Alag Shabad Yug International Charitable Trust’, Ludhiana. He has written numerous books on Sikhism in different languages which are distributed free among the Sikh folk.
