A 29-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified assailants inside his residence in Lehal Kalan village of Sangrur district in the early hours of Tuesday, triggering panic in the area and prompting a police investigation.
The victim, identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Babbu, was at his home when two unknown attackers allegedly entered the premises by scaling the boundary wall at around 2:00 am. According to police sources, the assailants opened fire at close range and fled the scene immediately after the attack.
Family members and locals rushed to his aid, but he succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Police Begin Investigation, Motive Unclear
Police teams reached the scene soon after receiving information and initiated a probe into the incident. Forensic experts are expected to examine evidence, while efforts are underway to identify and trace the suspects.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim, who was married about two years ago, had no known criminal background. The motive behind the murder remains unclear, and police are examining all possible angles, including personal rivalry and other potential causes.
Authorities have intensified search operations in the area and are also reviewing CCTV footage from nearby locations to gather clues about the attackers.
