Yograj slams Dhoni, Kapil Dev; demands Bharat Ratna for Yuvraj

New Delhi, September 2, 2024 (Yes Punjab News)

Yograj Singh, father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, recently expressed strong criticism towards two former Indian cricket captains, Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni. He accused Dhoni of “destroying” Yuvraj’s career and implied that Yuvraj’s successful cricket journey was his way of taking revenge against Kapil Dev.

Yograj Singh has had a long-standing contentious relationship with Kapil Dev, the captain who led India to its first World Cup victory in 1983. Yograj has previously blamed Kapil for his exclusion from the Indian cricket team. Yograj, who played one Test and six ODIs for India between 1980 and 1981, has often spoken about his grievances.

In a recent interview with Zee Switch, Yograj revealed that he had made a vow to himself to ensure Yuvraj’s cricket career would overshadow Kapil Dev’s legacy.

“Kapil Dev, regarded as the greatest captain of our time… I told him that I would ensure the world curses you. Today, Yuvraj Singh has won 13 trophies, while you have only one, the World Cup. That ends the discussion,” Yograj stated.

Yograj also blamed MS Dhoni for negatively impacting Yuvraj’s career during his captaincy, suggesting that Yuvraj could have continued playing international cricket for a few more years if not for Dhoni’s actions.

“I will never forgive MS Dhoni. He should look in the mirror. He may be a great cricketer, but what he did to my son is unforgivable. Everything is coming to light now,” Yograj declared.

He further added, “Dhoni has ruined my son’s life, a player who could have played for another four to five years. I challenge everyone to find a son like Yuvraj. Even Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag have said there will never be another Yuvraj Singh.”

Yograj also suggested that Yuvraj should be honored with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, for his contributions to cricket, particularly for playing through his battle with cancer and winning the World Cup for India.

“India should bestow upon him the Bharat Ratna for his immense dedication to the country, especially playing through cancer and winning the World Cup,” Yograj added.
