Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has Friday issued an important order regarding extension of validity of Driving Licenses, Vehicle Registrations, Permits, and Fitness Certificates. The decision has been taken in view of the resurge of Covid situation in the country.
The Union Government has now extended the date of validity of all licenses, registrations, permits, and fitness certificates that have expired to June 30, 2021. As such, all these documents, even if not renewed, would be considered valid till 30th of June 2021.
It is pertinent to mention here that orders regarding extending the validity of these documents were already in force but only till 31st of March, 2021.
It may be recalled that earlier too, due to the emergence of Covid in 2020, the government had issued various orders for the extension of validity of these documents. Letters were issued on March 30, 2020; June 9, 2020; August 24 2020 and December 27, 2020.
As per the last order issued in December the validity of these documents stand extended up to 31st of March, 2021 but now the validity has been extended to June 30, 2021, even as a citizen is not able to get the license, registration, permit, or fitness certificate renewed by then.
The decision has been taken in view of the resurgence of Covid situation in the country. All DGPs, Principal Secretaries, Secretaries of Transport Departments and Transport Commissioners of all the states and Union Territories have been informed of the decision of the government of India and asked to act accordingly.
