UNITED SIKHS Commends Bipartisan Sikh American Anti-Discrimination Act

New York, January 26, 2026(Yes Punjab News)

UNITED SIKHS joins Sikh organizations and allies across the nation in welcoming the introduction of the Sikh American Anti-Discrimination Act, a bipartisan bill spearheaded by Congressman David Valadao (CA-22) and Congressman Josh Gottheimer (NJ-05) .

This historic legislation establishes a Department of Justice Task Force on Anti-Sikh Discrimination, ensuring that the federal government collaborates directly with the Sikh community to address the rising tide of hate crimes, systemic bias, and transnational repression.

“This important step toward creating a DOJ Task Force to address anti-Sikh bias reflects strong leadership and commitment to justice.” said Manvinder Singh, Advocacy Director, UNITED SIKHS. “At a time when discrimination remains a serious threat, this bill sends a clear message:
hate has no place in America.” he added.

For too long, Sikh Americans have endured discrimination and violence without a clear federal framework to define, track, and prevent the hate the community faces. By creating a DOJ task force dedicated to anti-Sikh discrimination, Congress is taking a historic step toward ensuring safety, dignity, and equality for our community.

A Collective Call for Justice

The legislation has drawn broad support from Sikh organizations nationwide, including the American Sikh Caucus Committee, Sikh Coalition, SALDEF, and the New Jersey Sikh Youth Alliance Inc., which spearheaded the initiative towards the formulation of this bill. Together, these voices underscore the urgent need for federal recognition and action.

UNITED SIKHS joins this coalition in pledging full support for the passage and implementation of the bill. Manvinder Singh continued, “We appreciate Congressman Valadao and Congressman Gottheimer for uplifting Sikh voices and protecting religious freedom for all. UNITED SIKHS looks forward to supporting efforts that ensure safety, dignity, and equality for Sikh Americans nationwide.”

Task Force Responsibilities

The DOJ Task Force on Anti-Sikh Discrimination will:

Draft a formal definition of anti-Sikhism for use in charging decisions and hate crime statistics.

Develop educational programs for law enforcement, schools, and universities.

Publish annual reports to Congress documenting hate crimes against Sikhs.

Moving Forward

UNITED SIKHS calls on lawmakers, civil society partners, and community leaders to rally behind this legislation. By enshrining protections against anti-Sikh discrimination into federal law, the United States affirms its commitment to justice, equality, and the fundamental right to practice one’s faith freely.
