Udit Narayan Faces Backlash for Kissing Female Fan During Live Concert

Mumbai, February 3, 2025 (Yes Punjab News)

Veteran Bollywood singer Udit Narayan has found himself at the center of controversy after a viral video showed him kissing a female fan on the lips during a live concert. The clip, which features Udit singing his popular song “Tip Tip Barsa Paani,” has sparked a heated debate on social media.

The Viral Video and Public Outrage

In the video, a female fan moves closer to Udit Narayan to take a selfie. She attempts to kiss him on the cheek, but the singer unexpectedly tilts his head and kisses her on the lips. This incident has led to massive backlash, with many users criticizing his actions.

As the video spread online, several throwback clips of Udit Narayan kissing female celebrities, including Alka Yagnik, Shreya Ghoshal, and Karisma Kapoor, resurfaced.

One old video from an Indian Idol event shows Udit kissing Alka Yagnik on the cheek, leaving her visibly shocked as she steps away. In another clip, Udit is seen kissing Alka again at a different event, making her uncomfortable.

A similar moment was captured when Udit kissed Shreya Ghoshal on the cheek after she won the Best Female Singer Award. Another video shows him kissing Karisma Kapoor, who appeared surprised by the unexpected gesture.

Udit Narayan’s Response to the Controversy

Following the backlash, Udit Narayan addressed the controversy in an interview with Hindustan Times. Defending himself, he said:

“Fans can be so passionate. But we are not like that; we are decent people. Some people encourage this and express their love in this way.

What’s the point of making a big deal out of it? There are so many people in the crowd, and we have bodyguards present too. Fans feel like they are getting a chance to meet us—some extend their hands for a handshake, some kiss the hands… this is all part of their devotion. It shouldn’t be given so much attention.”

In a separate interview with ETimes, Udit further justified himself, saying:

“There is a deep, pure, and unbreakable bond between my fans and me. What you saw in the so-called scandalous video was a manifestation of the love between my fans and me. They love me, and I love them back even more. It is not something sleazy or secret. It is there in the public domain. My heart is pure. If some people want to see something dirty in an act of pure affection, then I feel sorry for them. I also want to thank them.”

Abhijeet Bhattacharya Comes to Udit Narayan’s Defense

Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, a contemporary of Udit Narayan, has defended him, stating that such incidents happen to famous singers all the time.

“Udit is a superstar singer, and incidents like these keep happening to us singers all the time. If we aren’t properly guarded or surrounded by bouncers, people tear our clothes apart. It has happened to me in the past too.

When I was relatively new in the industry, during a concert in South Africa, three or four girls kissed me on my cheeks so roughly that I couldn’t go on stage again. And all of this happened right in front of Lata (Mangeshkar) ji.”

He added, “He’s Udit Narayan! Girls were after him; he didn’t pull anyone close to him. I’m sure that every time Udit performs, his wife accompanies him as a co-singer. Let him enjoy his success! He’s a romantic singer. He’s also a big khiladi, and I’m an anari. Don’t try to play games with him.”

The Internet Reacts: Comparison with Guru Randhawa’s Viral Video

As the Udit Narayan controversy gained traction, an old video of singer Guru Randhawa also resurfaced. In this clip, a female fan tries to kiss Guru on the cheek while taking a selfie, but unlike Udit, he quickly steps back, visibly uncomfortable.

This stark contrast in reactions has led netizens to praise Guru Randhawa while criticizing Udit Narayan. Many users applauded Randhawa for maintaining his boundaries, with one fan commenting:

“Respect for Guru Randhawa … Udit ji, learn from this and watch the video carefully.”

Udit Narayan’s Legacy in the Indian Music Industry

Despite the ongoing controversy, there is no denying Udit Narayan’s impact on Indian cinema. He has been a leading playback singer for decades, lending his voice to numerous Bollywood hits.

Udit has sung in multiple languages, including Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Sindhi, Odia, Bhojpuri, Nepali, Malayalam, and Assamese. He has won four National Film Awards for his contributions to the industry.

Some of his most iconic songs come from blockbuster movies like:

– Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak
– Rangeela
– Pukar
– Dhadkan
– Lagaan
– Devdas
– Veer-Zaara
– Student of the Year

The viral video of Udit Narayan kissing a female fan has sparked mixed reactions. While some fans argue that the incident was a harmless expression of love, others believe it was inappropriate. With old clips of him kissing celebrities resurfacing and comparisons to Guru Randhawa’s response, the debate over personal boundaries and celebrity behavior continues.

Regardless of the controversy, Udit Narayan remains one of India’s most beloved playback singers, with a career that has left an undeniable mark on Bollywood.
