The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa not to deflect attention from the grave charges leveled against him by the family of slain former Akali Sarpanch Dalbir Singh Dhilwan and said he would have to answer for the political murder.
In a statement here, former minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said the family of Dalbir Dhilwan had already exposed the Jails minister. “They have proved how you implicated ten members of the family in a false case in 2004 immediately after your turban was toppled when you tried to indulge in booth capturing in Dhilwan village during the parliamentary election. You have not denied this fact”.
The former minister said “It is also a proven fact that the victim family is not getting justice. The Gurdaspur police is not registering an FIR on the basis of the statement of the son of the victim who has openly claimed that his father’s killing was a political murder and was committed by Congressmen under your direct patronage.
The district police is not registering the FIR because of undue pressure being exerted by you. If you are so confident that you are innocent why are you afraid of letting the police register an FIR against you as per law?”
Dr Cheema also asked the Jails Minister to disclose how many times he had talked to gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria who was his ardent supporter and whose family was patronized by him.
“How do you account for the fact that Bhagwanpuria’s extortion racket as grown multifold as per the top most officials of the Punjab Police? Since you are the Jails minister does it not prove a nexus between the two of you? Dr Cheema asked while asserting that Randhawa was directly responsible for the increase in drug trade in Punjab jails.
Stating that Randhawa’s days were numbered, Dr Cheema said “you cannot run away from the law now. You will be arrested once the statement of the victim family implicating you directly in the murder of Dalbir Dhilwan is recorded. Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh will have no option but to sack you from the ministry but will also have to go to jail as per the law of the land”.
