Chandigarh, May 22, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab, expressing its grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, said that the anti-social elements were openly indulging in unlawful activities without the scantest fear of the law, adding that not only the public at large was feeling insecure but also the elected representatives of panchayats, et al who were facing constant threats to their lives.

In a statement issued from party headquarters on Friday, party chief spokesperson and MLA Prof. Baljinder Kaur said that a large number of panches and sarpanches in the state were subjected to live under the shadow of fear and terror, leaving them with no obvious options but to reach out to Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP), raising their genuine safety concerns.

She said it was a matter of great shame for the government in the saddle that a delegation of panches, sarpanchs and Samiti members from the Fatehgarh Sahib district was forced to raising their security concerns by handing over a memorandum to Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh seeking a lasting solution to the imbroglio weiging heavy on their minds.

The AAP MLA said that a number of gram panchayats, including Halotali, Naraingarh Chhanna, Malu Heri, Sarana, Makhepur, Nalini, Chhaleri Khurd, Tana, Mohamandipar, Chhaleri Kalan, Panjoli Khurd, Amargarh, Panjoli Kalan, Nalina Khurd, Bagrian, Gunian Majra, gram panchayats under Patiala district, including Chayat Chalela, Lag, Raungla, Nandpur Kesho and under SAS Nagar district, including Machhli Kalan, Jhanjeri, Suwara Kalan, Jhanjeri, Suwara, Chuhar Majra, Patto et al, expressing serious concern over the brutal murder of sarpanches in Patiala and Amritsar district and attacks orchestrated on the elected Panchayat representatives during the lockdown, had urged the Chief Minister to provide cover to the elected panches, sarpanches and Samiti members in the state.

Prof. Baljinder Kaur said that the cause of concern of the elected representatives was fairly justified in view of the mal-administration in the state, adding that it was obligatory on the part of Chief Minister, who holds Home portfolio as well, should initiate concrete steps to improve the law and order situation in the state to pre-empt of chances of fatal attacks on the elected representatives.
