Sikh candidates forced to remove ‘Karha’ during JEE Mains Exam; SGPC seeks action against guilty

Amritsar, July 16, 2022 (Yes Punjab News)
The incidents of forcing Sikh students to remove their Kakaars (symbols of belief) to enter the examination center of entrance test held on the land of Punjab shows the ill intention of the Government towards the Sikhs, which can never be tolerated.

This was said by Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), while reacting to the issue of Sikh students being forced to remove their Kakaars during JEE (Joint Entrance Examination) (Main) recruitment exam, by the administration at Regional Polytechnic College on Malout Road in Bathinda on Tuesday.

Advocate Dhami said that the Kakaars are an integral part of Sikh lifestyle, to which, a Sikh never separates from his body.

“Earlier, such incidents came to light from other states of the country, in which, the Sikh candidates were forced to remove their Kakaar. But such an incident coming to fore in Punjab is not only sad but raises a big question mark on the working style of incumbent Punjab government”, said Advocate Dhami.

He said it cannot happen that people living in Punjab do not know about the Sikh Kakaars and its importance.

“Such incidents seem as if efforts are being made to annoy Sikhs. This incident has hurt the Sikh sentiments, against which there is great resentment among the Sangat (community)”, said Advocate Dhami.

He strongly asked the Punjab government to immediately arrest the responsible officials after registering a case of hurting sentiments for forcing Sikh candidates to remove Kakaar in Bathinda and to ensure that such an incident does not happen in Punjab.
