Amritsar, February 19, 2026 (Yes Punjab News)
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has removed Giani Raghbir Singh from the post of Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, in a significant development following his recent public remarks against the Sikh body’s leadership.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the SGPC executive committee held in Amritsar on Thursday. Sources indicated that the move comes in the aftermath of serious allegations made by Giani Raghbir Singh during a press interaction held at Jalandhar on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Action Follows Allegations Against SGPC Leadership
During his press briefing, Giani Raghbir Singh reportedly raised concerns regarding alleged irregularities within the SGPC, including issues related to missing religious manuscripts and administrative functioning. He had also criticised the leadership of the organisation, including SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami.
The developments have intensified tensions within Sikh religious and administrative circles, as Giani Raghbir Singh’s statements had drawn widespread attention.
Earlier Removed as Akal Takht Acting Jathedar
Giani Raghbir Singh had earlier served as the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht and was associated with several major decisions taken by Sikh religious authorities.
He was the acting Jathedar of Akal Takht when SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his associate Akali leaders were declared guilty of religious misconduct and awarded punishment as per panthic traditions. .3Following his removal from that position in December 2025, he had continued to serve as Head Granthi of Sri Darbar Sahib until the latest action by the SGPC.
His removal from the Head Granthi post marks a significant administrative decision by the SGPC, which manages key Sikh shrines including Sri Darbar Sahib, popularly known as the Golden Temple.
Formal Announcement Expected
An official statement confirming the decision is expected to be issued by SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami or other authorised representatives of the committee.
The development is being closely watched across Punjab and Sikh institutions, given Giani Raghbir Singh’s prominent role in recent religious and organisational matters.
