Speaking during the congregation held on the occasion of the 104th foundation day of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), the SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that this Sikh organization has run the Gurdwara management as per the Panthic (community’s) spirit during its glorious journey of more than a century and has always played a leading role for preaching Sikhi and guarding Sikh concerns.
He said that the SGPC has always raised the voice of truth while remaining active to stand for the sui generis distinct entity of Sikhs. This is the reason why the SGPC for being like a state within state rankles in the eyes of the governments.
The SGPC President said that constant efforts are being made to subvert the existence of the SGPC, a Sikh organization that came into existence in 1920 with great sacrifices after liberating the holy Sikh religious places from the corrupt mahants (priests).
“Governments are continuously trying to limit its jurisdiction. After indirectly taking over the management of Takht Sri Patna Sahib, Takht Sri Hazur Sahib (Nanded), Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee and Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, now their intention is to grab the management of SGPC”, said Advocate Dhami.
He appealed to the Sikh community to unite under the leadership of Sri Akal Takht Sahib to fight the anti-Panthic forces and promised that the SGPC will always be ready for the rising spirit of Sikhi in the direction of its history, traditions and functions.
Earlier, after the bhog (concluding ceremony) of Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, hazuri raagi jatha of Sri Harmandar Sahib performed Gurbani Kirtan and after the Ardas (Sikh prayer), Bhai Harmitar Singh, kathawachak recited the holy Hukamnama (edict) of the congregation.
On this occasion, Dharam Prachar Committee Bhai Ajaib Singh Abhyasi, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, SGPC Secretary Partap Singh, Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, manager of Sri Darbar Sahib Bhagwant Singh Dhangera, assistant secretary Harbhajan Singh Vakta, Manjit Singh Talwandi, superintendent Nishan Singh, Malkit Singh Beharwal, in-charge Major Singh, manager Satnam Singh Riar, additional manager Bikramjit Singh Jhangi, Yuvraj Singh, Gurtinderpal Singh and the Sangat were present.
