Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) encouraged the top students of the session 2018-20 from the Sikh religious studies correspondence course with special cash prize, honours and Siropao, which was launched by SGPC’s Dharam Prachar Committee to connect the sangat with teachings of the Sikh Gurus (Gurmat).
The topper Bhai Jaspal Singh has been awarded Rs 5,100, Bibi Mohanpreet Kaur who secured second position with Rs 4,100 and Bibi Divya Chatrath who came third with Rs 3,100, all residents of Amritsar.
The correspondence course is run by the Dharam Prachar Committee for the general sangat and a large number of people are admitted in it every year.
For the session 2018-20, a total of 2,922 students were admitted, out of which, 41 students got more than 80 per cent marks and secured a place in merit. SGPC has sent Rs 1,100 each and certificates to these 41 students.
Apart from this certificates have also been given to every student who cleared this course.
While honoring the first three toppers, SGPC president Bibi Jagir Kaur said that the scope of the correspondence course was very wide and no age limit is required for admission. Anyone can do this course by post. She said that this course is linked with Gurbani, Sikh history and Rehat Maryada.
Bibi Jagir Kaur appealed to the sangat to enroll as many people as possible in this course and get Gurmat information.
On this occasion executive committee member S. Satwinder Singh Tohra, additional secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhurakohna, S. Sukhminder Singh, assistant secretary Kulwinder Singh Ramdas, S. Simarjeet Singh, S. Balwinder Singh Kahlwan, OSD Dr Amrik Singh, Dr Sukhbir Singh, superintendent Malkit Singh Beharwal, Dr Amarjit Kaur in-charge correspondence course and others were present.
