SGPC Executive Committee Passes Resolution Condemning Atishi’s Remark on Sikh Gurus

The Executive Committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), in a meeting chaired by its President Harjinder Singh Dhami, on Thursday passed a strongly worded resolution condemning remarks made by former Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi about the Sikh Gurus**.

The meeting was held at the SGPC headquarters in Amritsar, where the Executive Committee decided to initiate strict action against Atishi for what it termed an insulting and hurtful comment that has deeply wounded Sikh sentiments.

‘Disparaging Language in Assembly Hurts Sikh Sentiments’: Dhami

Addressing the issue, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami said that the use of objectionable language about the Sikh Gurus by an elected representative during an ongoing session of the Delhi Legislative Assembly was unacceptable and had caused serious hurt to Sikh religious feelings.

He said the remarks reflected a regressive and disrespectful mindset, adding that the SGPC would pursue legal action against Atishi for making derogatory references to the Sikh Gurus.

SGPC Appreciates Sikh Students’ Competitive Exam Success

During the same meeting, the Executive Committee also commended Sikh students being trained under SGPC initiatives for competitive examinations.

The committee praised:

  • Six students of Nishchay Administrative Services Training Centre for clearing the PCS preliminary examination, and
  • One student of Nishchay Academy of Judicial Services, Bahadurgarh (Patiala) for qualifying the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board examination for the post of Law Officer.

Advocate Dhami said the SGPC remains committed to enabling Sikh youth to secure high administrative and judicial positions, so they can work for societal welfare in accordance with the Guru-given principles.

Strong Condemnation of Violation of Maryada at Harmandir Sahib

The SGPC President also strongly condemned an incident involving a youth who violated the sacred maryada of the holy sarovar at Sri Harmandir Sahib.

He said Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib follows a sacred and time-honoured maryada, and any act violating this sanctity is unacceptable and deeply painful to Sikh hearts. Advocate Dhami appealed to devotees of all faiths to respect and follow the maryada while visiting the holy shrine.

Routine Administrative Matters Reviewed

The Executive Committee also reviewed routine administrative matters related to SGPC functioning, gurdwara management, trust affairs, and other departmental issues.

Apart from SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, those present included:
Senior Vice-President Raghujit Singh Virk, Junior Vice-President Baldev Singh Kalyan, General Secretary Sher Singh Mandwala, Chief Secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan, and Executive Committee members including Surjit Singh Tugalwal, Surjit Singh Kang, Gurpreet Singh Jhabbar, Daljit Singh Bhinder, Bibi Harjinder Kaur, Baldev Singh Kaimpur, Major Singh Dhillon, Mangvinder Singh Khaparkheri, Dr Jang Bahadur Singh Rai, among others.

Also present were OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, Secretary Pratap Singh, Additional Secretary Gurinder Singh Mathrewala, Legal Advisor Amanbir Singh Siyali, and several senior officers and managers of the SGPC.
