Mississauga, Nov 15 2024 (Yes Punjab News)
The Punjabi radio producers of CJMR 1320 AM radio station have once again rallied around Seva Food Bank to help fight hunger in the community.
This year, they will host the 14th Radiothon and Food Drive. The previous radiothons and food drives have collectively raised over $1.7 million dollars and over 600,000 pounds of food for Seva Food Bank.
The 2024 Radiothon will take place all day on Friday, November 15th, coinciding with Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary. Supporters can call into any of the Punjabi shows and make their pledge on the air.
These shows include Asian Vision-Rangla Punjab, Punjab Di Goonj, Asian Vision, Apna Punjab Radio, Sargam, Ajj Di Awaaz, Rangla Punjab and Music of India. The owners of CJMR 1320 AM radio station are providing support and a much-appreciated donation to commemorate the occasion.
As Sikhs around the world will celebrate the birth of Guru Nanak in 2024, we are reminded that Seva Food Bank is founded on the Guru Nanak’s values of chardi kala (eternal optimism), sarbat da bhalla (wellbeing of all), and seva (selfless service).” Seva Food Bank’s Executive Director, Vipin Saini, emphasized, “We are in an unprecedented crisis.
Declaring food insecurity an emergency is a wake-up call for all of us. At Seva, we’ve committed to doing everything possible to serve those facing hunger, but we can’t do it alone.
This radiothon is essential for raising the funds to keep food on our shelves and provide for those who rely on us.”
“Food insecurity isn’t just a distant issue; it’s here, affecting families across Mississauga right now.
Today’s radiothon for Seva Food Bank is a chance for each of us to play a part in making sure no one has to choose between essentials like food and rent.” remarked radio host Kuldip Deepak.
“Every year, we are so pleased to support our Punjabi radio show hosts and Seva Food Bank,” says CJMR’s General Manager Matt Caine. “Seva has done incredible work serving the community for over a decade and we are proud to support them.”
The 2024 Food Drive will take place from 10 AM to 4 PM on Saturday November 16th in fifteen South Asian grocery stores across Peel Region. More information about the Radiothon and food drive is available at: www.sevafoodbank.com/radiothon.
“Food insecurity has now been declared an emergency in Mississauga, and we’re seeing the impact every day at Seva Food Bank. Families, seniors, and children in our own communities are going to bed hungry.” said Seva Food Bank board member, Jyoti Bedi.
Seva Food Bank first opened its doors in September 2010 and has grown to distribute over 165,000 pounds of food to over 1500 client families each month.
As part of the Mississauga Food Bank’s city-wide network, it provides safe, nutritious and culturally appropriate food to clients from its Wolfedale Road and Malton locations.
