Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is actively planning to mark upcoming 100 year centenaries related to Sikh history. The first centenary congregation related to Morcha Guru Ka Bagh is being held on August 8, 2022 at Gurdwara Guru Ka Bagh, Ghukewali near Amritsar and the second centenary of Shaheedi Saka (martyrdom massacre) Sri Panja Sahib (Pakistan) will be commemorated on October 30, 2022.
As the concern about Saka Sri Panja Sahib is with Pakistan, therefore, SGPC is sending a special jatha (group) to neighbouring countries for attending the centenary congregation to be organised at Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib. The SGPC has started the process to send this special jatha to Pakistan, under which, the interested Sikh pilgrims have been asked to deposit their passports with Sikh body. The pilgrims can deposit their passports up to August 5, 2022.
SGPC assistant secretary media S. Kulwinder Singh Ramdas said that these historical centenaries will be organised with Panthak grandeur and the SGPC President Advocate S. Harjinder Singh Dhami has directed to initiate and complete the process for sending a special jatha to Pakistan.
S. Kulwinder Singh said the pilgrims who wish to visit Gurdwara Sri Panja Sahib on the occasion of centenary congregation of Saka Sri Panja Sahib, can deposit their passports with the Yatra Department of SGPC at its office in Amritsar. He said the pilgrims must deposit a copy of their identity proof i.e. Aadhar Card, Voter ID or Ration Card and photograph along with recommendation of their concerned area SGPC member. This will be a special jatha, therefore, the pilgrims are requested to deposit their passports and documents in time, so that the required visa process can be completed timely, he said.
Notably, every year, the SGPC sends four jathas of Sikh pilgrims for pilgrimage to Gurdhams (Sikh shrines) in Pakistan. These four jathas are sent on the occasion of birth anniversary of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Khalsa Sajna Diwas (Vaisakhi), Martyrdom Day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji and death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The jatha going to participate in centenary congregation of Saka Sri Panja Sahib is separate from above said four jathas of Sikh pilgrims.
