SAD legislature party expresses anguish at Parminder Dhindsa choosing family over party

Chandigarh, January 7, 2020 (Yes Punjab News)

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) legislature party today while welcoming the appointment of former minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon as the new legislature party leader after due consultation with them by SAD President Sukhbir Singh Badal, expressed anguish that Mr Parminder Dhindsa had chosen his family before the party while resigning as legislature party leader without consulting his fellow colleagues.

While expressing these views at a meeting of the legislature party wing which was attended by all remaining mlas, the members said it was unfortunate that despite the fact that Mr Parminder Dhindsa had been given so much honour in the party, he had failed to fulfill his duty as leader of an opposition party.

They said Mr Dhindsa’s actions seemed to be designed to weaken the SAD and give a fillip to the Congress party which had failed on all fronts in the State and felt only engineering divisions in the SAD could revive its fortunes. “No member of the SAD legislative party should play into the hands of the Congress party, the members affirmed unanimously.

While thanking his colleagues as well as the SAD President for the trust bestowed on him, Mr Sharanjit Dhillon said he would work with vigour to expose the anti-people Congress government.

He said it was unfortunate that Mr Parminder Dhindsa had given up his responsibility at a time when it was needed the most with every section of society up in arms against the Congress government. “I however will not shirk from my duty to raise issues of the people and force the government to fulfill the promises made to the people be it farmers, youth or Dalits”.

Meanwhile the legislature party meeting demanded a special session of the Vidhan Sabha be called at the earliest to discuss burning issues of farmers including complete loan waiver and due compensation and government jobs to farm suicide victim families.

“Punjab is essentially an agrarian State. Its farmers are in the midst of a crisis. The Congress government should not run away from discussing the welfare of farmers and taking steps which will ameliorate their lot”, the legislators added.
