Romance, Entrepreneurship, Vedanta, Crime, enrich Literati discussions on last day

The last day of Literati saw interesting tapestry of music, romance, crime, opening with London based editorial director of SCALA, Oliver Craske, who has authored a number of non-fiction books on music, art and photography, shared his journey with celebrated Indian music maestro Pt Ravi Shankar.

Since his first meeting with him in 1994, when he worked with him in writing his autobiography, Raga Mala, Pt Ravi Shankar wanted him to do his biography after his death.

The ‘Indian Sun: The Life and Music of Ravi Shankar’ he said brings to the fore little known facets of multi-dimensional personality of Pt Ravi Shankar, unknown to many Indians.

Interviewed by Swati Bhadoria, Oliver said that Pt Ravi Shankar had gained much popularity and following for his music abroad than in India.

Nandita Puri, a journalist, author and wife of late Bollywood artist Om Puri, brought to the fore grim realities of intercontinental child adoption which majority of the time is a cover to the international child trafficking.

In conversation with city based corporate trainer and author of two novels, Suditi Jindal, Nandita Puri talked about a very poignant and sad story of Jennifer which she has shared in her recent book by the same title, who was adopted from Mumbai when 8 years old, taken to US, abused, exploited, and thrown into the quagmire of drug traffic and ultimately depoted back to India.

She pointed out the role many reputed rich organisations and individuals who have played murky role in the child adoption racket spoiling lives of the children for ever, and later abandoned to rot, which she has even made a mention about in her book.

The discussions happily veered to romcom and romance writing with the celebrated copy writer, author and screen play writer, Anuja Chauhan. Writer of some timeless taglines for several brands like ‘Yeh Dil Mange More’, and ‘Nothing Official About it’, and author of several best-selling romcoms. In conversation with poet and corporate executive Mandeep Caur, Anjua spoke about her style of writing, and the travails as a writer which requires one to continue to innovate, improve, and excel from the first book to the next one.

Though the concept of romance in the millennia has transformed with drastic changes in the value system of youngsters, Anuja said she continues to dabble in romcoms only because I continue to be an 8 or 9 year old boy or a girl in my head and I enjoy being that.

VEDANTA AND CHANAKYA
Author and trainer Col D S Cheema looked for the ‘Holy Grail of Success from Vedanta to Modern Chanakaya’ with Dr Janki Santoke, a Vedanta scholar along with researcher of ‘Kautilaya Arthshastra’ and author of ‘Corporate Chanakaya’, Dr Radhakrishnan Pillai.

Dr Janki Santoke, whose videos on Vedanta had been inspiring the people for last several years, reiterated that the Vedanta was a system of life and continues to guide the people who care to learn from it, though she wondered why the current generation continues to find themselves to the similar dilemmas and challenges as what Arjuna faced thousands of years ago, considering the fact that humans have progressed so much in all other spheres.

Dr Pillai, a leadership trainer, pointed out the perennial relevance of Chanakya in current times, that should become a part of management and leadership studies in our education system, and clarified many misgivings people have about his philosophy.

Both the authors painted a ray of hope that the next education policy allows the study of Vedanta and Chanakya in the schools to prepare the next generation in a much better way.

Atul Khosla, pro vice chancellor of Shollini University explored the corporate connect from grassroots to glorious with Arun Maira, former member of India’s Planning Commission, chairman of HelpAge International; and Kaninika Mishra, author of ‘The Indic Quotient”

Arun Maira shared his journey with the Tata Group which he said matched his innate desire to be a part of an organization who wanted to work for the people at large and building India. Author of ‘The Human Face of Change’ that people-first had been the best learning that he imbibed with Tatas and later as a member of the Planning Commission learnt the lesson of helping social enterprises succeed and make a difference in the lives of the people at large.

‘The Indic Quotient’, said Kaninika Mishra is all about the innovations and service orientation of many a startups who are contributing to building a new India, and how they are connecting the Indian rich cultural past and its heritage with the new solutions.

CRIME
Karnal Singh, a 1984 batch IPS officer and pass out of IIT Kanpur, and author of ‘Batla House’ along with criminal lawyer Vishvajeet Chaudhary in conversation with another Supreme Court lawyer Avani Bansal, looked at the humane aspects of policing, and what legal reformation is required to enable the police to carry out their investigations effectively to deal with terrorism.

Karnal Singh, who had investigated Delhi blast cases and other terror attacks, including Batla House incident, said that his book looked at the difficulties of investigating and combating terrorism and the humane side of the police officers engaged in protecting the citizens.

Well known Indian mythology and historic fiction writer Anuja Chandramouli, and Koral Das Gupta, an author, painter and entrepreneur explored the narrative of women in Indian mythology with Niharika Bhuwania as moderator, touching upon the different shades of women strength as portrayed in mythology.
