Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha from Punjab today submitted in the parliament that river water is being supplied from Punjab to Rajasthan in terms of Agreement signed in 1927 between Province of Punjab and Princely State of Bikaner later on ratified in 1956 with State of Punjab and State of Rajasthan after reorganization of states as per Gang Canal.
Dr. Sahney lamented that payments were discontinued by Rajasthan after 1956 and a total of rupees 1 lakh crore is overdue.
Dr. Sahney also stated that Punjab never ratified in assembly allocation of Ravi-Beas waters between Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan decided by Centre on 31st December 1981.
Dr. Sahney stated that no seigniorage or royalty is being paid to Punjab for all the water flowing to Rajasthan which is a matter of grave concern, when groundwater level is seriously depleting in Punjab.
