The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Tuesday arrested a Patwari posted at the Revenue Estate of Rurka in Dehlon tehsil of Ludhiana district for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.
The accused has been identified as Puneet Kumar Yadav. According to a VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Dehlon tehsil.
The complainant alleged that Yadav had demanded a total bribe of ₹1 lakh for carrying out the division of his land. The Patwari had allegedly already received ₹35,000 from the complainant before the latter approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Ludhiana.
Acting on the complaint, an EOW team laid a trap and caught Yadav red-handed while he was allegedly accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant. The arrest was made in the presence of two official witnesses.
The Vigilance Bureau has registered a case against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB EOW police station in Ludhiana. Further investigation into the case is underway.
